Wolves Women and Girls are taking on a mammoth virtual challenge to raise funds for a Wolverhampton charity.
The women’s team, development group and youth sides from under-10s to under-16s aim to travel the distance from Compton, Wolverhampton to Compton, California. All money raised from the 5,331-mile challenge will go to Compton Care.
Steve Cullis, Player Development Manager at Wolves Foundation, said: “As a club, we have a great relationship with Compton Care as is demonstrated every year through our Christmas visits, and we are huge supporters of the great work they do to provide many fantastic services throughout the community to those who need it most.
“During these unprecedented times, they need more support than ever before to help them continue to provide their first-class palliative care.
“The players themselves have expressed a direct interest in being involved in fundraising activities due to family members previously using their services and we couldn’t think of a better way to help than to take part in this brilliant virtual challenge.”
The distance will be achieved throughout May via running, cycling, rowing or walking, with players using Strava or Apple devices to log their activity – for an official to keep a running total.
The challenge will be completed either within players’ homes or during the one form of daily exercise currently allowed under the government’s Covid-19 guidelines.
Kate Kelly, Community Events Manager at Compton Care said: “We are delighted that the entire Wolves Women and Girls team and management have come together to support Compton Care at this really important time.
“They have set themselves quite a challenge to complete, but I have no doubt with their determination and enthusiasm they will smash this mammoth challenge, not only raising vital funds, but also boosting Compton’s profile across the city.
“Compton’s Virtual Challenge series is a great way for anyone that was planning to undertake a challenge this year to still do one virtually and raise funds to support our work so that we can continue to care for patients living with complex and incurable illnesses and also relieve the strain on the NHS during Covid19.”
